Obedience Progression

Puppy Kindergarten

Puppies under 6 months old

Butterflies and Rainbows. This 6 week class is aimed at making your puppy comfortable in new environments with new people and dogs and new sensory experiences. We focus on training and advice to help you to raise a great adult dog as well as beginning some basic obedience skills. This class is a GREAT START for your pup!

Please do not schedule your spay or nueter during the class. There will be no refund or make up classes.

Beginner Obedience

For Older Puppies (Over 6 Months Old)


The Beginner Obedience class is an 8-week and concentrates on basic obedience skills in a distraction rich environment. The main skills include heeling, sit/down/stand, recall, stays in all positions. These skills can help your dog to fit into our society in numerous ways. At home, at the park, on a walk, at the vet, at the groomers and many other ways. There is reason these basic obedience skills are the cornerstone of our work with dogs.
Notes: The first night is lecture with no dogs we will discuss; training, equipment needed and give homework for week 2. Please do not schedule spay or neuter during the class session. There are no refunds or make up classes.

INTERMEDIATE OBEDIENCE

Pre-requisite Beginner Obedience or Approval

Intermediate Obedience continues to work the skills including heeling, sit/down/stand, recall, stays in all positions. Intermediate works on duration and consistency and also introduces some higher level skills like finishes, come front, pivots in order to continue to develop the obedience skills. You register for each date. Classes are limited to 12 dogs and your registration holds your spot on that date.

RALLY OBEDIENCE

2 CLASSES – NOVICE/ADV/INTERMED & EXC/MASTER

Pre-requisite minimum of 20 weeks Beginner Obedience /Intermediate training

AKC Rally is all about teamwork. Our Rally courses are designed to teach and practice the vast variety of activities that you may be asked to perform as you and your dog navigate a Rally course.  There are 10-20 signs per course, depending on the class level.  The activities you may be asked to preform include:  turns, sit, down, stay, etc. in a wide combination.  Unlimited communication from the handler to the dog is to be encouraged and not penalized. While touching isn’t allowed, you can use verbal commands, clap your hands, pat your legs and use hand signals to praise and encourage your dog. We offer two levels of classes.  NOVICE/ADV/INTERMED is where you start and will move into EXC/MASTER when your instructor approves. You register for each date separately.  Classes are limited to 10 dogs and your registration holds your spot on that date.

NOVICE Obedience

Pre-requisite – must be pre-approved to attend class

Novice Obedience is competition level class that offers high level obedience training to teams interested in or currently competing in Novice Obedience. Teams work on the obedience skills needed to successfully compete including: heeling, figure 8’s, position discrimination, recalls, stays, stand for exam, etc. Novice Obedience works on duration and consistency and smooths out the rough edges of your performance skills. You will register for each date. Classes are limited to 12 dogs and your registration holds your spot on that date.

OPEN OBEDIENCE

Pre-requisite – must have attended Beginner OPEN or be pre-approved to attend class

OPEN Obedience is high end competition level class that trains and practices the obedience skills specific to the AKC OPEN obedience class. The class is offered to high level obedience to teams interested in or currently competing in OPEN Obedience. Teams work on the obedience skills needed to successfully compete including: heeling, figure 8’s, position discrimination, recalls, stays, stand for exam, retrieve on flat and over jump and broad jump. OPEN Obedience works on duration and consistency and smooths out the rough edges of your performance skills. You will register for each date. Classes are limited to 12 dogs and your registration holds your spot on that date.

Utility Obedience

Pre-requisite – must have Beginner UTILITY or be pre-approved to attend class

UTILITY Obedience is the highest competition level class that is offered and trains and practices the obedience skills specific to the AKC UTILITY obedience class. The class is offered to high level obedience to teams interested in or currently competing in UTILITY Obedience. Teams work on the obedience skills needed to successfully compete including: heeling, position discrimination, moving stand, Go-OUTs, Gloves and Articles, etc… UTILITY Obedience works on duration and consistency and smooths out the rough edges of your performance skills. You will register for each date. Classes are limited to 12 dogs and your registration holds your spot on that date.

Therapy Dog Prep Class

Pre-requisite – must have a minimum of 20 weeks obedience training

Therapy Dog Prep class is designed to teach and practice the skills you will need to be a successful Therapy Dog going to nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, schools to offer comfort and support to those in need of a smile and furry friend. The environments where you will be volunteering and your responsibility to keep your dog safe within those environments will be discussed and practiced. The Therapy Dog Prep class is not where you learn obedience. Your dog should already be obedience trained and be able to answer YES to a majority of the checklist below.

Notes:  NO training or prong collars in this class.
